Pilates Fitness + Meditation Circle
October 27, 2014
Starting in NOVEMBER
, I am adding a new studio class to the teaching roster: Pilates Fitness at Whole Yoga & Pilates in Odenton
, Maryland. This will be my third weekly class at the studio, alongside Restorative and Gentle Yoga.
Like all of the other classes at Whole Yoga, this class is a $12 drop-in fee. (Package deal also available: 10 class pass for $100, expiring within 3 months of purchase date).
On the Whole Yoga website, the Pilates Fitness class is described as:
Key Pilates principles and exercises, fused with the best personal training techniques and incorporated into a moderately intense workout oriented to overall fitness. A great way for students of all experience levels to really get moving!
Here are some more details about what to expect:
Similar in style to my gym-based Barre Fusion classes, Pilates Fitness will bring in many elements of Pilates mat work AND:
- mobility and flexibility
- calisthenics
- strength training with light weights and resistance bands
- isometrics
, balance, and joint stabilization
- yoga postures
- intense core work
- aerobics and ballet-inspired floor work
While the studio does not have a ballet barre installation
, we will be using the wall for some movements
, and the floor for others. Much like my other yoga and fitness classes, this class is accessible TO ALL, and I will offer modifications for injuries, as well progressions for more advanced practitioners.
ALSO STARTING in November, Whole Yoga & Pilates will begin a guided meditation circle featuring a number of different instructors and leaders. This class runs from 5:15-6:00 after my Pilates Fitness session
, and follows the aforementioned payment structure. I will be leading the meditation circle every few weeks – November 9th and December 14th are my next scheduled sessions.
If you are interested in beginning, or learning new styles of meditation practice
, I encourage you to try these sessions. Each instructor will bring a unique style
, class structure, and draw from different meditative traditions and philosophies. My particular sessions will include short discussions, and a guided practices will draw from mindfulness meditation, yoga nidra (yogic sleep)
, mudras (hand postures), walking meditations, lovingkindess (metta) meditation, mantras (repeated phrases), sound meditation using chants
, singing bowls, and chimes, as well as postural queues/yoga postures to help you ease into a more comfortable extended practice.
